CPAs offer deployed soldiers free tax prep

Deployed military personnel and their spouses are receiving free tax preparation by certified public accountants (CPAs).

This service is offered in cooperation with the Minnesota Society of Certified Public Accountants (MNCPA) and the Minnesota National Guard Family Programs.

Deployed military personnel in all branches who are residents of Minnesota qualify for free state and federal individual income tax return preparation for 2008 tax returns. Service members, spouses or family members can call the Minnesota National Guard Family Programs at 651-268-8200 or 888-234-1274 to use the service.

The MNCPA is part of the national 360 Degrees of Financial Literacy campaign to help Americans improve their financial literacy. Resources and information are available online at www.mncpa.org/360, including specific information for military and reserve personnel.

A free CPA referral service is also available on the Web site or by calling 800-331-4288. Founded in 1904, the 9,100-member professional organization includes CPAs working in public accounting, business and industry, government and education.
