The Minnesota State Patrol Commercial Vehicle Section will be increasing traffic enforcement statewide Oct. 20-26.

Non-commercial motorists can expect an increase in enforcement of safe driving conduct near commercial vehicles.

The initiative is part of a nationwide effort to promote safety awareness among commercial and passenger vehicle drivers.

Last year in Minnesota, there were 3,789 crashes involving commercial trucks, resulting in 1,178 injuries and 56 deaths.

Minnesota State Patrol urges motorists driving around big trucks to stay visible to the trucks’ drivers, obey speed limits and allow plenty of room between their vehicles and the trucks.

Minnesota State Patrol also reminds motorists that seatbelts are the single most important thing to save your life in a car crash.
