Crime and Accidents
The following items were taken from reports at the Detroit Lakes Police Department and Becker County Sheriff's Office.
Wednesday, July 18
At 1:39 a.m. a resident on the 26000 block of Beaver Trail, White Earth, reported a man was acting erratically and trying to get into the house. Tribal police were unable to locate the man.
At 8:18 a.m. the theft of tools was reported from a garage on the 19000 block of Broadway Street in Audubon.
At 9:12 a.m. the Twin Haven mobile home park reported overnight vandalism to its recreation center.
At 7:57 p.m. the theft of hay bales was reported west of Wolf Lake. The bales were on rented land and a witness saw them being loaded onto a white pickup truck.
At 11:35 p.m. a bicyclist was clipped by a vehicle on County Road 22 in Lakeview Township. There were no apparent injuries.
At 11:35 p.m. a house break-in was reported on the 600 block of Second Street SE in Frazee.
Thursday, July 19
At 9:31 a.m. mailbox vandalism was reported on the 400 block of West Lake Drive.
At 10:08 a.m. a Silver Leaf Township resident reported that a door had been ripped open and a window torn out of a camper on the 35000 block of Highway 87.
At 12:34 p.m. the theft of a game camera and metal property stakes was reported on the 23000 block of Warbler Way in Shell Lake Township.
At 1:16 p.m. the theft of a purse, containing a wallet, ID and other items, from a motor vehicle was reported in Becker County. Police were unable to locate the suspect, who was driving a silver Grand Am.
At 10:09 p.m. the theft of numerous tools and equipment was reported from the shop and backyard of a residence on the 100 block of Swan Street in Audubon.
At 10:12 p.m. police responded to a complaint of fireworks on the eastern side of the lake. It turned out to be a professional fireworks display put on by Lakeshirts for a company event at Fireside.
At 10:23 p.m. a fight was reported in the north projects area of White Earth.
At 11:40 p.m. a truck was reported stolen from the south projects area of White Earth. It was later found and returned by tribal police.
Friday, July 20
At 7:51 a.m. a resident on the 500 block of South Shore Drive reported a vehicle window had been smashed with a rock and a wallet stolen overnight.
At 8:27 a.m., the DL Public Works Department notified the police department that most street signs had been stolen overnight in the Timber Creek addition off South Shore Drive.
At 6 p.m., a 10-month-old child was rescued from a locked car in Detroit Lakes. The child was locked in a 2006 jeep on the 700 block of Richwood Road. It took police about five minutes to get the car open. The child was OK.
At 9:48 p.m. a mobile home fire was reported five miles north of Wolf Lake.
A father and son who lived there lost their home in the fire. The man discovered the fire and had to go to a neighbor's house to call 911. Wolf Lake Fire Chief Dale Hilliucka told KDLM Radio that the house was a total loss.
He told KDLM that the fire appears to have started from an extension cord hooked up to an air-conditioner window unit. He says the extension cord was probably too light a gauge and because of the extreme heat was being overworked.
No one was injured and the Red Cross is helping the family.
Carsonville firefighters and the Wolf Lake rescue squad assisted at the scene.
At 9:58 a.m. a break-in was reported at a Frazee residence. A dehumidifier was stolen.
At 11:02 a.m. a White Earth woman reported she had been in a fight in her home on July 6 and was now experiencing medical problems.
At 6:16 p.m. a Hitterdal man fell out of his boat on Hanson Lake in Cormorant Township and was injured when the boat circled around and the propeller struck one of his lower extremities.
Lucas Olaf Walstrom, 29, suffered non life-threatening injuries, was brought to shore, and taken by ambulance to Essentia St. Mary's Hospital in Detroit Lakes. He was wearing a life jacket, and he turned 30 the next day.
Saturday, July 21
At 4:52 a.m. a man sleeping on a grassy area on the 900 block of West Lake Drive was arrested for being a public nuisance and having alcohol on the street. The 36-year-old man was held until sober and his bicycle taken to the police garage to be released along with him.
At 1:15 p.m. two golf carts were reported stolen at Maple Hills.
At 8:06 p.m. police received complaints about a drunken man on West Lake Drive walking out into traffic and yelling and swearing at motorists. The 25-year-old man was arrested for being a public nuisance.
At 11:05 p.m. a woman was arrested for disorderly conduct near the Pavilion and was held for court.
Sunday, July 22
At 1:15 a.m. a woman in the Timber Creek area reported a man passed out in the street. He told a police officer he drank too much and was given a ride home and released to sober family members.
At 3:01 p.m. a mailbox vandalism was reported on the 1000 block of County Road 33 in Silver Leaf Township. Some sort of device had apparently exploded inside the mailbox.
