Crime and accidents
The following items were taken from reports at the Becker County Sheriff's Department and Detroit Lakes Police Department:
Friday, April 16
-At 9:17 a.m. a White Earth woman witnessed a house being broken into on Marten Drive and scared off the young man who was prying at a screen.
-At 10:26 a.m. Walmart reported that a 23-year-old Lake Park man had been living in a 1989 Buick parked near the garden center, and asked for police assistance.
-At 1:58 p.m. a Detroit Lakes woman reported someone unsuccessfully attempted to perpetrate a scam on her by pretending to be her grandson asking for money for an emergency.
-At 2:35 p.m. a Detroit Lakes man reported the theft of a silver 1993 Acura Vigor from a residence he formerly occupied on Linden Lane. The car was not in working order.
-At 3:30 p.m. a Frazee woman reported a theft. No details were available.
-At 6:59 p.m. Walmart reported that a 52-year-old man -- who had been kicked out after living in a vehicle in the parking lot for the past several weeks -- had returned. He was cited by police for driving after his license had been canceled as inimical to public safety, and for possession of a small amount of marijuana.
Saturday, April 17
-At 1:46 a.m. a fight was reported at Zorbaz between a 25-year-old man and a 29-year-old man.
-At 3:20 a.m. a Verndale man reported a vehicle rollover on Highway 10 in Detroit Township. No injuries were reported.
-An accident was reported at Summit Avenue and Holmes Street in Detroit Lakes, with possible injuries.
-At 9:51 a.m. a resident on the 600 block of Granger Road reported that sidewalk solar lights had been stolen or damaged.
-At 12:25 p.m. a White Earth man reported that a man had entered his residence and punched his granddaughter in the face. The suspect was arrested, and drug paraphernalia was found on his person.
-At 4:36 p.m. a Rochert woman reported a fire in the woods in Holmesville Township. Callaway firefighters were on the scene for about 30 minutes and DNR firefighters were there a little longer.
-At 5:56 p.m. a Callaway man reported a grass fire on the 22000 block of 310th Street in Callaway Township. Callaway firefighters were there for about 40 minutes.
-At 6:18 p.m. the Canadian Pacific Railway reported that three young people were trying to get on a train in the Snappy Park area. One 15-year-old Detroit Lakes boy was identified by witnesses.
-At 7:10 p.m. a resident on the 800 block of White Clover Beach Road reported that he felt threatened by a neighbor man pounding on the door and shouting he was going to "end it." The man was gone when officers arrived, but is wanted on a warrant for a different, minor offense.
-At 9:59 p.m. an Ogema man reported the theft of trim boards, two doors and aluminum diamond tread plate from the Audubon mobile home park. There is a suspect in the case.
Sunday, April 18
-At 9:45 a.m. a Detroit Lakes woman reported a grass fire on the 10,000 block of Meadow View Lane in Lakeview Township. Detroit Lakes firefighters were there for about 30 minutes.
-At 2:04 p.m. a Ponsford woman reported money missing from the till at the Chief's Corner Store in Pine Point.
Monday, April 19
-At 8:52 a.m. a school bus driver for Lake Park-Audubon reported that a 14-year-old boy who didn't want to go to school had climbed part way up the outside of the Audubon Elevator. He was not threatening suicide, just being stubborn, according to the Audubon School principal, who eventually got him to come down.
-At 11:54 a.m. an ambulance was called to the lower courtroom in the Becker County Courthouse after a person there had a seizure.
-At 2:23 p.m. a yield sign was reported missing from the Andrews and E. Main intersection in Detroit Lakes.
-At 4:01 p.m. a woman on the 1200 block of Roosevelt Avenue reported the theft of about six solar yard lights.
Tuesday, April 20
-At 1:56 a.m. White Earth emergency personnel responded to a rollover accident with injuries. An ambulance crew was on the scene for an hour and officers were there about 90 minutes.
-At 7:57 a.m. a rollover accident was reported on County Road 32 north of Audubon. The driver, Shelby Somerville of Lake Park, was not injured, according to the accident report.
-At 8:38 a.m. an accident was reported on County Road 8 near Lake Park. The vehicle ended up half-submerged in a slough, but no injuries were reported.
-At 10:15 p.m. the DNR received a report that 16 pigs were wandering around in state forest land on the south end of Boot Lake near the access.
