Crops and Soils Day scheduled for July 17
CROOKSTON, Minn. - The annual University of Minnesota - Crookston Northwest Research and Outreach Center Crops and Soils Day is scheduled for Friday, July 17.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. with the program commencing at 8:30 a.m. The program focuses on wheat, soybean and corn production practices and will feature a number of great educational exhibits.
The Crops and Soils Day will be held in the field just north of the University of Minnesota - Crookston campus and east of the Valley Technology Park along Polk County Road 71. Parking will be clearly marked.
Attendees will have the opportunity to browse the whole area and attend various talks at their leisure. Each presenter will give a formal presentation at three different times and will be available to answer questions.
The speakers and topics are: Dr. Beverly Durgan - Small Grains Weed Control, Dr. Jeff Gunsolus - Herbicide Mode of Action, David Nicolai - Symptoms and Prevention of Herbicide Drift, Dr. Jeff Stachler - Incidence of Herbicide Resistant Weeds Across the Red River Valley, Dr. James Anderson - Spring Wheat Variety Update, Dr. Kevin Smith - Barley Variety Update, Dr. Jeff Coulter - Optimum Corn Row Spacing in Northwest Minnesota, Dr. Dan Kaiser - Managing Iron Deficiency Chlorosis in Soybeans, Dr. Albert Sims - Managing Nitrogen Smarter, Dr. Char Hollingsworth - Wheat Diseases and Their Management, and Dr. Ian MacRae - Intensive Pest Management of Soybeans.
The day will include coffee, snack and complimentary lunch. In case of rain, a modified program will be presented indoors.
