Cynthia was born February 7, 1937, in Detroit Lakes. She was the 11th of 12 children born to Arthur and Lillius (Stanforth) Carter. She grew up in Detroit Lakes, where she attended school, graduating from Detroit Lakes High School with the class of 1955.

Just a few days following her high school graduation, Cynthia gained employment at Detroit State Bank, now Bremer Bank in Detroit Lakes, where she worked for 47 years.

On Sunday, December 16, 1956, Cynthia was united in marriage to DeWayne Bruns at St. John's Lutheran Church in Vergas. The couple made their home on the Bruns family farm. Cynthia enjoyed helping out on the farm when she could.

The couple truly enjoyed spending their time together and it could be said, "if you saw one, you saw the other". They enjoyed vacationing, camping, snowmobiling, and Cynthia also liked to garden, organize whatever needed organizing, and was also the family genealogist, putting together a detailed Carter family tree.

Above all, Cynthia was a devoted wife who will be greatly missed by her family members and friends.

Surviving Cynthia are her husband of 56 years, DeWayne Bruns of Frazee; one sister, Phyllis (Bill) Jordan of Rialto, Calif.; many nieces and nephews; and two sisters-in-law, Eleanor Flatau of Mesa, Ariz., and Betty Carter of Kentucky.

Preceding Cynthia in death were her parents; infant brother, Lesley; brothers Jim, Clifford, Howard, and Donald; and sisters, Alice Keeping, Mildred Edwards, Ava Quinlan, Dorothy Wendt and Betty Hodson.
