Danell Haspel: Ideas for holiday get-togethers at library
Detroit Lakes Minnesota 511 Washington Avenue 56501

If you’re looking for unique Christmas party ideas, your library is here to help!

The library collection includes periodicals like “Martha Stewart Living,” “Real Simple” and “Midwest Living” — to name just a few — that usually contain holiday entertaining ideas.

The following featured books are among our latest on the subject.

“Bite by Bite: 100 Stylish Little Plates You Can Make for Any Party,” by Peter Callahan and Raquel Pelzel.

In “Bite by Bite,” his debut cookbook, Callahan welcomes readers to share in the fun and beauty of his creations, providing inspiration for parties — whether casual gatherings, dinner parties, baby showers, or formal occasions such as weddings and holiday soirees — and 100 recipes for the home cook, ranging from savory to sweet, comfort food to haute cuisine.

According to Callahan, being prepared is the key to pulling off a self-catered party like a professional.

With that in mind, he has included a “Kitchen Tools and Conveniences” section, listing the key equipment that will help you create the delicious masterpieces in this book.

In the recipes he also notes what can be made in advance, how best to schedule your time, and any emergency substitutions and shortcuts that will make life easier on the big day of the event.

“Handmade Hostess: Twelve Imaginative Party Ideas for Unforgettable Entertaining 36 Sewing and Craft Projects, 12 Desserts,” by Kelly Lee-Kreel and Rebecca Soder.

In this book, Lee-Kreel and Soder have captured the heart of social gatherings for special occasions — expressing your love for family and friends in the DIY spirit of decorating, baking, and sewing.

Discover how easy it can be to plan and create stylishly themed parties for all ages without breaking the bank.

Have fun stitching and crafting creative décor projects along with matching party favors for your guests.

In addition, each party theme comes with its own signature dessert recipe.
