Dark cloud over Ironman
The rain was persistent but the golfers overcame the dreary weather by getting in their qualifying scores during the 40th annual Ironman Junior Classic. There was not a moment today that the players did not dodge raindrops as Ironman Golf Course received close to an inch of rain.
In our 13 to 18 year old division, our own Kate Smith fired a 33 to secure the #1 seed for the eight person match play flight. Kate withstood a charge from Brian Clark but won 1 up in her first match. She will face Joe Cahill in the morning as he won his first match convincingly.
The boys 10 to 12 year old division saw Blake Kahlbaugh shoot a sparkling 2 over 29 in the rain. He has a four shot lead entering the 18 hole stroke play final over Cole Johnson who fired 33.
Cole Hanson leads the 8 to 9 year old boys division with a 43, while Naomi Larson is seven in front of sister Emily with a 45 in the girls 8 to 12 year old division.
Better weather is expected on day two, the final round.
