Darwin Rader

Darwin D. Rader, 70, of Detroit Lakes, died Thursday, March 19, 2009 at Innovis Health in Fargo.

Darwin Darrel Rader was born to George and LaVerna (Quast) Rader on June 8, 1938 in Galesburg, N.D. At a young age, Darwin moved with his family to rural Frazee. He was baptized Aug. 17, 1938 and confirmed May 25, 1952 at Christ E. Lutheran Church in Spruce Grove Township, rural Frazee. He attended country school near Frazee at District 52. He graduated from Frazee High School in 1956.

On April 11 1957, Darwin enlisted in the United States Army in Fargo. He proudly served his country as a paratrooper for the 101st Airborne Division. On Jan. 15, 1959, Darwin was honorably discharged from the army at Fort Campbell, Ky. On Feb. 27, 1960 he married Jenette Clark at St. John's Lutheran Church of Corliss Township, rural Frazee. Darwin and Jenette resided in Detroit Lakes, where they started their family.

Darwin was employed as an accounting technician for the Detroit Lakes Post Office for 34 years before retiring on April 3, 1996. Darwin was a country boy at heart; he was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting and taking in the quiet nights at his lake home.

Darwin was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Eagles Club in Detroit Lakes. Along with his outdoor activities, Darwin enjoyed repairing small engines, woodworking, watching the Minnesota Twins, boxing matches, listening to country music and square dancing with his wife and friends.

Darwin will be remembered and missed by his wife, Jenette of Detroit Lakes; four sons, Randy (Chris) Rader of Perham, Don (Jessica) Rader, Steven Rader and Casey Rader, all of Detroit Lakes; two daughters, Joan Handeland of Montevideo, Minn., and Julie Rader of Dayton, Nev.; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, DuWayne (Inge) Rader of Menahga; and one sister, Karen Renollet of Frazee.

Preceding him in death were his parents, George and LaVerna Rader, and grandparents, Fred and Pauline Rader.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, March 23 at Zion Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, with the Rev. Dan Abrahams officiating. There will be visitation for one hour prior to the start of services.
