Dave Matthews Band coming to DL for 10,000 Lakes Festival
Hoping to reach what 10,000 Lakes Festival (10KLF) spokesman Dave Weissman describes as "a wider fan base," the 10,000 Lakes Festival announced Wednesday that the Dave Matthews Band will join Widespread Panic and Wilco as headliners for the seventh annual music and camping festival, set to take place at Detroit Lakes' Soo Pass Ranch on July 22-25.
"It's been a couple of years in the making," said Weissman of the addition of the Dave Matthews Band to the schedule. "It's something we wanted to do to branch out with our lineup -- to try and reach a wider fan base."
Though there has been "a good response" from festival-goers so far, Weissman acknowledged that there have been detractors as well.
"No matter what (bands) we bring in, there's people that will love it and people who don't," he said.
"Overall, the response has been very positive."
All together, the 10KLF artist lineup will feature over 60 acts performing on four stages. The first round of confirmed acts includes not only the Dave Matthews Band, Widespread Panic (two nights) and Wilco, but also Umphrey's McGee, Railroad Earth, the Leaf Green (two nights), Junior Brown, WookieFoot, Trampled By Turtles, Cloud Cult, Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings, Trampled by Turtles, Everyone Orchestra, Kathleen Edwards, Pretty Lights, Boom Box, William Elliott Whitmore and many more.
"It's pretty diverse...we bring in everything from bluegrass to rock," Weissman said.
Up and coming bands looking to land a spot on the festival lineup can also enter the Cosmic Break contest at www.sonicbids.com/10klf.
Unlike past years, however, there will be no live tour in conjunction with the Cosmic Break contest; prospective bands will be judged by their online submissions.
"The tour isn't happening this year," Weissman said. "Submissions go directly to the festival organizers, who will be making their decision over the next couple of months. We don't know the exact number of bands (that will be chosen)."
The 10,000 Lakes Festival gives attendees a great camping and musical experience on the Soo Pass Ranch's 500-acre property, which includes over one mile of freshwater shoreline and spacious, shaded camping.
