Former Waubun-area resident David J. Pederson, 62, lost his battle with leukemia on Friday, January 16, 2009.
Born at the White Earth Indian Hospital in 1946, David James Pederson attended Waubun Public Schools.
From 1963-1967, Dave honorably served his country and was a decorated Vietnam veteran who was stationed aboard the U.S.S. Chicago CG-11. He was a skilled pilot with multiple types of aircraft as well as a naturally gifted musician who played many different instruments and entertained far and wide with his incredible talent and sense of fun.
For 28 years, David worked for the equipment division with the City of San Diego as a heavy-duty diesel mechanic. He retired in the spring of 2008, and had decided he would spend his time being with family and building beautiful wooden canoes.
David leaves behind a family who fiercely adored him, including Linda, his wife of 25 years; six grown children, Julie, David, Shelly, Jason, Eric and Heather, and several grandchildren, as well as siblings Anne Marie of Annandale, Va., Kathy of Little Falls, Minn., twin sister Luella of Blackduck, Minn., Laura of New Mexico, Melissa of Plano, Texas, James of San Diego, Calif., and Debra of Papasky, Minn.
His brother Stephan passed away, also of leukemia, on March 28, 2009 at Regency Hospital in St. Paul. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Becky.
The remains of David and Stephan Pederson will be interred together at services scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, July 10, 2009in the family plot at Lake Grove Lutheran Church in Waubun, with the Rev. Doyle Turner officiating.
