Dennis L. Kropuenske, 60, of rural Detroit Lakes, died Tuesday, July 2, 2013, surrounded by his loving family and under care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Funeral Services for Dennis will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 8 in David Donehower Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, July 7, with a 6 p.m. prayer service. It continues for one hour prior to Monday's services.

Interment will be held at the Minnesota State Veteran's Cemetery in Camp Ripley, near Little Falls.

Dennis Lee Kropuenske was born to Leonard and Elaine (Terrell) Kropuenske on October 27, 1952 in Rapid City, S.D. He graduated from Brainerd High School. He enlisted into the United States Army on August 8, 1972 in Minneapolis, and started what became a fulfilling career in the military.

He performed his basic training in Ft. Lewis, Wash., and received additional schooling at Ft. Lee in Virginia. From 1972-1994, Dennis proudly served his country for two tours of duty overseas in Germany. From 1980-1994, Dennis was stationed at the Moorhead Armory, with the title of National Guard supply sergeant.

It was the simple things in life that made Dennis happy. He enjoyed time with his family, fishing, hunting, watching Nascar, PBR and gardening.

Dennis is survived by his two sons, Jeremy (Brooke) Kropuenske of Harwood, N.D., and Jason (Jessica) Kropuenske of Frazee; his four grandchildren, Michela, Wesley, Harley and Byron; his father, Leonard (Mary) Kropuenske of Little Falls; and mother, Elaine Klienschmidt of Brainerd; five sisters and one brother. Beverly (Ed) Meyer of Brainerd, Wesley (Sue) Kropuenske of Olympia, Wash., Nancy Thoene of Brainerd, Kimberly (Robert) Aspholm of Brainerd, Theresa (Pat) Frericks of Grove City, Minn., and Teri Ann (Robert) Morre of Brainerd; and the love of his life, Linda Jarvis of Detroit Lakes; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his maternal grandparents, John and Mary Terrell; paternal grandparents, Otto and Ella) Kropuenske; and step-father, Allen Klienschmidt.

A special "thank you" to the Roger Maris Cancer Clinic and Hospice of the Red River Valley staff and friends for their wonderful care and support.

The David-Donehower Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Online tributes may be shared at
