Dennis Edward Larson was born Aug. 14, 1938, in Moorhead to Pearl (Johnson) and Leland Larson of Borup. He graduated from Moorhead High School in 1956, and was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead.

Dennis spent his life working in the trucking business. While studying at the University of Minnesota, he worked on the docks at night at Dakota Transfer, Minneapolis, which later became Mid Continent.

In 1961, Dennis married his soul mate, Leone Johnson, at Halstad. He worked his way up to terminal manager in Oklahoma City in 1964, then in 1973, advanced to their largest terminal at Dallas, Texas. His mentor and "second dad," R.J. Babcock, guided his career until his death in 1977. The company was then sold and Dennis and Leone moved back home to Moorhead. Dennis tried his hand at selling insurance and ended up back in trucking with Twin City Freight and Fargo Freight before signing on with Thompson Brothers. It was there he built up the east coast poultry transport, gathering good friends along the way on his journey to end up at Can Am Express. He retired on top of the world with all his trucker friends joining the party.

Dennis and Leone raised two children, Denise and Doug. They added their spouses, John and Hope, to his fan club. Five grandchildren became the apples of his eye and made him proud in all their various activities.

Dennis and Leone spent the weekends and summers with their lake family at Bayview Shores on Pelican Lake. Sundays, Dennis committed to his rock, ushering at Trinity Lutheran Church and throughout the week, he helped all his neighbors with their projects.

Leone died in January of 2008, and Dennis continued to make his home in Moorhead. He enjoyed singing with the Barber Shoppers, fishing and entertaining his many friends and family. He was our "superman!" He spent his last summer running around with his special friend, Mardene Slaathaug.

Survivors include his mother, Pearl Larson; children, Denise (John) Haglund, Lake Park, and Douglas (Hope) Larson, Laurel, Delaware; grandchildren, Erika and Tory Haglund of Lake Park, and Jacob, Jason and Holly Larson, of Laurel; a brother, Leland (Carol) Larson, Tucson, Ariz.; brother-in-law, Vernon Holland (Vicki Miller); six wonderful nieces, nephews and their families; and his very special friend, Mardene.

Funeral is Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011, at 11 a.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead.

Visitation is one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

Burial is in Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead.
