Even when the Detroit Lakes boys’ golf team can’t bring their usual varsity starters, they are still among the best.

With the DLHS Prom taking place Saturday, the Laker squad brought a majority of their junior varsity players, but it didn’t matter, as DL took first in the Fargo North Invite with a score of 621. Moorhead was second with a 626.

The regular Laker varsity players scored a meet low 306 Friday, while the second-stringers played almost as well with a 315 Saturday.

Senior Karter Smith finished tied for second overall with a four-over par 76 Friday and a two-over 74 Saturday for a 150.

Ben Mallow was sixth overall with a 74-81-155, while sophomore Christian Hedstrom was the third two-day golfer with an 82-78-160.

Friday players included Michael Herzog, who shot an 82, as well as Austin Rusness and Sam Goral, who each finished with an 84.

Saturday’s scores included Tanner Schnathorst’s 82, Dahlen Olson’s 93 and Isaac Cihak’s 88.

The Northwest Classic had to be moved because the Detroit Country Club will not be open until next week, so Friday’s tee-times will be starting at 1 p.m. at Perham Lakeside Golf Course and Saturday they will be at Wildflower, starting at noon.

Teams involved in the Northwest Classic include Wayzata, Moorhead, Anoka, Eastview, Forest Lake, White Bear Lake, Woodbury and Cambridge, along with two Detroit Lakes teams.
