Deputies arrest Fosston man found in radio station in underwear
A Fosston, Minn., man was arrested Sunday when sheriff's deputies responded to a burglary call at the Q107 radio station building on U.S. Highway 2 near Fosston about 6:50 a.m., according to the Polk County Sheriff's Department.
Jim Offerdahl, the station's director of technical operations, said he arrived at work at 6:45 a.m. to find Chad Alan Norberg, 29, "draped over a counter, passed out and wearing only his underwear." His discarded, wet clothes were scattered on the floor.
So Offerdahl, who also is Fosston's mayor, called 911 and waited for a deputy while Norberg continued sleeping.
Norberg was charged with felony burglary and misdemeanor theft Monday in Polk County District Court. He also faces a probation violation charge, according to a court official. Norberg was on probation for a 2007 felony protection order violation charge. No bail was set.
"I wouldn't call it a burglary," Offerdahl said. "There appears to be no intention to steal anything or damage anything. He was just drunk, wet, cold and muddy and was looking for warmth. There is a swampy area near the station."
Norberg remains in custody in the Tri-County jail, a court official said. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for Monday. After the arrest, Offerdahl went on air at 7:30 a.m., 30 minutes later than scheduled.
