Detroit Lakes icemen skate past Walker/Hackensack-Akeley
The Detroit Lakes boys' hockey team pummeled Walker/Hackensack-Akeley Friday night by a score of 15-2 to stay perfect at 3-0 in the Mid-State Conference.
W/H-A, which is a newer program in Minnesota High School hockey, had trouble keeping up with the Lakers most of the night.
Solid puck movement throughout the night was the plan for the Lakers.
"We moved the puck better than we have all year, every line had some great plays and every goal had one or two assists with it, so I couldn't be happier," said DL head coach Chris Denardo.
"You always worry about games like these because you don't want your players to get to focused on just trying to get points or goals and tonight we stayed focused, controlled play and moved the puck very well."
Junior forward Tanner Lane and Andy Schupp each had a hat trick in the game.
It was Lane's fourth hat trick of the season in six games, in which he has 16 goals.
Alex Phelps, Nate Baker and Ryan Berg each had two goals while Brett Provo, Kirby Inderrieden and Chad Maristuen each added one.
Lane added three assists, as well, to take back the state scoring lead with 27 points.
Phelps' five points on the night pushed him into fourth place in state scoring with 23 points.
Blake Murphy started his first game of the year, stopping six shots for the win.
The Lakers fired 62 shots on net.
The Lakers' junior varsity won their second in a row as well, beating W-H-A by a score of 9-0.
Cody Olsen scored four times in the game and added an assist, while Kirby Inderrieden scored two and added five assists.
Ryan Lindquist added four assists, giving that line 16 points for the game.
Derek Brehm scored two from the point, as well as getting two assists.
Zach Saunders added a goal and an assist. Austin Starkey also got an assist in the game. Grant Sands stopped all 10 Walker shots for the shutout win.
The Lakers (4-2) hosted West Fargo Friday (results will be in Sunday's Becker County Record). DL will travel to the Fergus Falls Holiday Tournament Dec. 29-30.
They face West Fargo Monday at 2:30 p.m., Mankato West Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. and Fergus Falls Wednesday at 7 p.m.
