Detroit Lakes man charged with DWI, fleeing
A Detroit Lakes man was charged with first-degree driving while intoxicated and fleeing a peace officer, following a short pursuit Tuesday morning.
Keith Albert Diederich, 39, of 1776 Long Bridge Road, was taken into custody at his home.
He was also charged with driving with a cancelled license.
Diederich has three previous DWI convictions.
Detroit Lakes Police Chief Kel Keena said the incident began on Washington Avenue near Highway 10 at approximately 12:34 a.m., when an officer attempted to stop Diederich.
The officer was joined by a couple of other police officers and Becker County Sheriff's Deputies as Diederich drove down Washington Avenue and onto West Lake Drive.
Keena said Diederich knew that police were trying to pull him over --Diederich drove around an officer's car that was trying to stop him.
Keena said that three-quarters through the pursuit, officers had a good idea where Diederich was heading after they received registration information back from dispatch.
The suspect was arrested without further incident at his home.
