Detroit Lakes man charged with swindling car buyers
A Detroit Lakes man will make his first appearance in Becker County District Court on March 30 on two felony counts of theft by swindle.
Scott Allen Tyge, 38, of 12907 West Abbey Lake Road, Detroit Lakes, is accused of tampering with the engine warning lights on two motor vehicles that were sold to local residents while he was an employee of a local used car dealer in March 2008.
Another employee of the dealership reported that Tyge allegedly placed black electrical tape over the warning lights inside the dashboards of the two vehicles, which were later sold to two local residents with-out informing them that the vehicles needed major repairs.
Each charge of theft by swindle carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and/or $10,000 in fines.
