Detroit Lakes man dies after high-speed chase
Speeds reached over 100 mph during the pursuit of a stolen vehicle early Friday morning, resulting in a crash and the death of Brandon Michael Boswell, 24, of Detroit Lakes.
According to Becker County Sheriff Kelly Shannon:
The Pelican Rapids Police Department became involved in a chase about 12:30 a.m. Friday involving a car that had been reported stolen in Fergus Falls.
The Becker County Sheriff’s Office was notified that the car was heading north on Highway 59, and the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office asked for assistance.
Pelican Rapids police lost sight of the vehicle near Otter Tail County Road 31 (the Pelican Lake Road) in the northern part of the county.
Becker County deputies headed to the point where the vehicle was last seen, and the chase resumed when Becker County Deputy Chad Peterson spotted the car about a half-mile east of the intersection of Becker County Road 22 and County Road 147, west of Lake Mellissa.
The stolen vehicle was heading east on County Road 22 (from Lake Eunice towards Shoreham).
Peterson, who had been parked on the side of County Road 22, pulled out to follow and the stolen vehicle began to accelerate. The officer activated his emergency lights and siren.
As the fleeing car came to the T-intersection of County Road 22 and County Road 147, the driver lost control of the car and it rolled several times.
Boswell was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. He was alone in the car.
