Detroit Lakes Public Schools will be hosting a public hearing tonight for the district's operating levy referendum to be held Nov. 3.
The hearing starts at 7 p.m. in the Roosevelt Elementary gymnasium.
Voters will be asked to increase the district's levy from the current level of $319 per pupil to $457 per pupil.
The plan is pitched as tax-neutral, as an existing bond used to pay for the Roosevelt Elementary addition expires next year.
The increased operating funds would be used to maintain current programs and staffing levels.
Administrators say that class sizes will increase, and teachers and other staff will be laid off if the levy does not pass.
