Detroit Lakes junior Alex Guetter has more than solidified his number two status in the Laker pitching rotation after tossing a three-hit 2-1 victory over Thief River Falls Thursday.

The win also cemented DL as the North half No. 1 seed for the upcoming Section 8-2A playoffs, which start Thursday at the high seeds.

"Alex has really stepped it up and he gives us a good one-two punch in our pitching rotation along with Brock Johnson," said DL head coach Steve Fuhs.

Guetter's breaking ball was dropping off the table against the Prowler batters, who managed one run against DL's only lefty.

A two-out triple by Brady Johnson in the fourth inning was the lone damage TRF did against Guetter.

The Lakers gave Guetter a 2-0 lead in the third inning, which started with a leadoff single by Aaron Gnoinsky.

Max Knoll was hit by a pitch, which was followed by a Reed Oistad RBI single to score Gnoinsky.

Nick Polejewski produced a run-scoring fielder's choice to bring in Knoll to cap the Laker's scoring.

Thief River Falls didn't get a runner past second base after the fourth.

"It was good to see Alex pitch well against all of Thief River Falls' left-handed batters," Fuhs said. "His fastball has enough of a tail to give it good movement."

Fuhs also credited each of Joe Thompson and Andy Pedersen for producing at the bottom of the batting order.

Pedersen had a two-run double in the first game, which resulted in a 9-4 loss.

The game was a continuation from earlier this month when it was called in DL due to inclement weather.

The Prowlers scored five runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh off of pitchers Reed Oistad and Connor McLeod.

The Lakers scored their only runs in the sixth, with Brandon Johnson ripping a two-run single and Thompson gaining an RBI safety to pull the Lakers ahead 4-2.

Oistad had two hits in the game to pace DL's 10-hit attack. TRF finished with 11 hits and had three players -- Briar Verbout, Cody Conners and Zach Sorenson -- each having two hits.

The Lakers will have at least a one or two seed, with the inside track on the top one.

The first game is an elimination game, while the second round and beyond are double elimination tilts.
