Detroit Lakes teen completes pet therapy training
Lauren Pederson, 17-year-old daughter of Kathy and Dean Pederson of Detroit Lakes, has successfully completed her Delta Society Pet Therapy Training and passed the Delta Society Examination with her 4-year-old rescue pom, Foxy.
Pederson became interested in the Delta Society Pet Therapy Program through her participation in the Becker County 4-H Dog Project. Pederson has been in the 4-H Dog project for eight years and received training from Becker County Dog Project Leaders Mary Holsen and Linda Weidewitsch.
Pederson is the recipient of grants and scholarships from the Becker Co 4-H program and the MN 4-H Alumni Helping Hands Grant which she and another 4-Her helped write to fund the Pet Therapy Program in 4-H.
Pederson and Foxy will be making visits to area nursing homes, libraries and 4-H events in the near future. Pederson is a senior at Detroit Lakes High School and is an active member of the Happy Hillside 4-H Club in Becker County.
