Detroit Lakes tennis nips out Perham
A peak was hit by the Detroit Lakes girls' tennis team after toppling visiting Perham Thursday 4-3.
Several of the Laker players were able to pull out some of their top performances of the season in the one-match victory, which is setting the team up well for the upcoming section tournament, starting Oct. 10.
"Everyone was really on their game," said DL head coach Kris Omberg. "We match up pretty well with Perham, so it's always a competitive meet. All the girls were very aggressive and it paid off for them."
The Lakers won three of four in singles play, while the No. 2 duo of Brianna Seebold and India Fritz preserved the victory with a straight set win over their Perham counterparts, 6-2, 6-2.
"Everything was clicking for Brianna and India, they were aggressive at the net and solid at the base line," Omberg said. "They played the best I have seen them play so far this year."
DL's top two singles players, Joelle Langworthy and Justine Haukebo were victorious in straight sets, while No. 4 Becca Ask won her match 6-4, 6-2.
"If we can keep this momentum going through our last few matches, our tournament run will be exciting," Omberg added.
The Lakers will travel to Moorhead Thursday for a 4:30 p.m. start.
