Detroit Lakes track and field open the 2013 season

Even with plenty of snow on still on the ground, the Detroit Lakes boys’ and girls’ track and field teams kicked off its spring season with the Concordia College MAA Indoor meet Friday.

The Laker girls finished third overall out of six teams, while the boys were second out of six squads.

There were plenty of top 10 finishes by the Lakers, which included going against Moorhead, Alexandria, Wahpeton, Fergus Falls and Thief River Falls.

The Laker boys won two events, including the 4x400 relay race and Isaac Clem taking the high jump with a 5-8 mark. Stephen Erb was second with the same height.

Montana Johnson ran for a pair of third-place finishes in the 55-meter dash and 200 dash with times of 6.90 and 25.18, respectively.

Jake Fritz also nabbed a bronze in the 400 run with a mark of 55.48, while Josh Weber was third in the shot put with a distance of 43-2.

DL sophomore Shay Nielsen was back in strong form in the shot put after winning the event with a 39.35 for the Laker girls.

The 4x200 team of Lindsey Heinecke, Kyley Foster, Hailey Jorgenson and AddieKay Johnson won the event with a 1:53.12.

Second-place finisher for the DL girls included Heinecke in each of the 55 and 200 dash events and Foster in the 55-hurdles with a 9.55.

Megan Ostlie was a third-place finisher in the 1,600 run with a mark of 5:52.20, with Katie Larson right on her heels in fourth at 6:00.99.
