DL Area College Foundation capital campaign underway
Last year over 85 percent of the 250 students that graduated from Minnesota State Community & Technical College in Detroit Lakes needed some type of financial assistance.
The Detroit Lakes Area College Foundation began raising money for the capital campaign in November 2008 to help fund DLACF projects.
Campaign members from the community and MSCTC staff include: Shelly Maguire, Tim Westbrook, Claire Tinjum, Dale Westley, Leah Pigatti, Darlene Christen, Alver Leighton, Mike Cary, Doreen Hauge and Linda Walz.
For 2009, their goal is to raise a total of $80,000 in pledges. This pledge campaign will continue through April, with all proceeds going towards much needed equipment for MSCTC programs and student scholarships.
Students receiving these scholarships go on to complete degrees in areas such as accounting, computer networking and web development, nursing and radiological technology, and sales and marketing.
The Detroit Lakes Area College Foundation is organized on behalf of MSCTC Detroit Lakes, and has been in operation since 1981. The DLACF develops programs and provides accessibility for scholarship donors and recipients through an office and staff at the Detroit Lakes campus. Scholarships are awarded annually by a scholarship committee made up of faculty, staff and board members, who select recipients based on criteria set by the committee itself.
