DL boy hurt when jack slips, car drops
DETROIT LAKES -- A 10-year-old Detroit Lakes boy was injured Wednesday morning when a jack slipped and a car landed on him while helping his father with repairs.
Nathan Francis was taken by ambulance to Innovis hospital in Fargo, where he was listed in stable condition Friday morning and was expected to be released soon.
Nathan and his father, Todd Francis, were working on a power steering problem on an Oldsmobile Cutlass, which was jacked up in the driveway of their home, according to the police report.
While the boy was on his back partially under the car, the jack stand slipped and the car landed on the boy's head and chest area.
A neighbor, Brian Zurn, helped lift the car up while the father reset the jack, so the car was not on the boy for a very long period of time, said Police Sgt. Tim Eggebraaten.
The accident was reported at 8:14 a.m. on the 400 block of East Union Street.
