For the 21st time in a row, the Detroit Lakes boys’ golf team won the Mid-State Conference title.

Number 21 came under some miserable weather conditions, with cold and rain dominating the day, but the Lakers persevered and landed four on the Mid-State All-Conference team, while topping 2013 State Class 2A champions Staples-Motley 307 to 321.

The Cardinals’ Dakota Waverek did win medalist honors with a three-over par 74, but DL senior Michael Herzog was right on his heels as runner-up with a 75.

The Lakers’ depth was strong, as Christian Hedstrom stroked a 76, Ben Mallow a 77 and Luke Payne finishing with a 79 to earn All-Conference honors.

Tanner Schnathorst was Honorable Mentioned with an 82 and Isaac Cihak also made the list with his 85.

The Lakers will be in action Thursday in St. Cloud, then will head to Walker Friday and Park Rapids Saturday for a two-day tournament.

The DL Invite will be Tuesday at the Detroit Country Club, starting at 9 a.m.
