Despite having three golfers finish in the top five of the Sub-Section 8-2A meet Wednesday, the Detroit Lakes boys’ golf team still finished second to Fergus Falls by four strokes, 298 to 302.

That will set up a close Section 8-2A meet at Longbow Golf Course in Walker Monday, as North side’s Crookston and Roseau also will be in contention.

“It will be a dog fight Monday,” said DL head coach Bob Gorden. “But the only thing we can control is ourselves. The only thing which matters to us is to go in playing solid.”

The Otters’ key to victory in the Sub-Section was Chris Swenson’s five-under par 67.

Three of the next four finishers were Lakers, led by Michael Herzog’s one-over 73, Ben Mallow’s 74 and fifth-place Tanner Schnathorst’s 76.

The fourth score for DL was Christian Hedstrom’s 79, while Isaac Cihak stroked an 82 and Luke Payne a 92.

“Tanner has been shooting as consistent as Michael lately,” Gorden said. “With how close the section meet could be, the fifth score could come into play, as well.”

The Lakers will be estimated to tee off around 11:30 a.m. at Longbow Monday.
