DL Boys Swimming - Lakers battle illness, but still dig deep to take win
Detroit Lakes Minnesota 511 Washington Avenue 56501

The Detroit Lakes boys' swimming and diving team had to dig deep, but some strong perseverance showed through Thursday in a 95-88 victory over visiting Perham.

With the team battling through a myriad of illnesses, the Lakers fought through a lack of numbers to keep Perham at bay by winning eight events and taking the top two spots in three of them.

The Lakers also picked up big points by winning all three relay events, as well.

Senior Carter Krengel took the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.09, while sophomore Jared Olson won the 200 IM with a mark of 2:17.47, a full 10 seconds ahead of second-place Mark Murphy of Perham.

Krengel also was victorious in the 100 freestyle at 50.57 and Olson the 100 backstroke with a 1:02.29.

Eighth grader Zane Freeman was tops in diving with a 209.20.

The Lakers will be in the Park Rapids Invite Saturday, starting at 1 p.m.
