DL boys' tennis rolls W-DC
Although looking a little rusty, the Detroit Lakes boys' tennis team rolled over Wadena-Deer Creek 7-0 in the season opener Tuesday.
The Lakers had a perfect sweep over the Wolverines by not losing one set throughout singles and doubles play.
"We looked a bit rusty, but it was a good first effort," said DL head coach Wade Johnson. "Collin Harris played particularly well in No. 3 doubles. Garrett Duncan and Derick Brehm played very well as a team and we feel very good about that combination."
The Brehm/Duncan duo won No. 2 doubles 6-0, 6-0, while Harris and his partner Keith Thornby won their No. 3 doubles match 6-1, 6-3.
Thieris Galdino opened up as No. 1 singles to win 6-0, 6-2 over Michael Paavola, while Jesse Meyer followed at No. 2 with a pair of 6-1 victories over Austin Kovkowski.
Isaac Fondrick downed Taylor Garcia with a pair of 6-2 set wins, with Tanner Duncan winning his No. 4 match over Cory Pettow 6-1, 6-3.
Chad Hanson and Levi Nordine added a No. 1 doubles victory over Drew Larson and Zach Norenberg 6-1, 6-3.
The Lakers (1-0) will play in the St. Cloud Apollo Tournament Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m.
