DL ends season in section meet

The Section 8-2A meet was a good learning experience for the Detroit Lakes boys' track and field team, as it butted up against some of the best athletes in the state.

The Lakers only had a couple of point scorers in the section, but picked up valuable seasoning along the way.

The DL distance team ran good times, but in a strong section, placed lower than normal.

"If we would have run these times from this year last season, we would have placed higher," said DL head boys' coach Steve Zamzo. "But it was just a crazy stacked section this year in distance."

Dylan Ramstad-Skoyles led the Laker pack in the 1,600-meter run with a 4:45.55 time for 18th, while Wes Bakken was right behind him in 19th with a time of 4:46.92.

Ryan Kalberer gained a section place with an eighth-place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 39-07.5.

"We just had a bunch of personal-best times, but we are one of the youngest and smallest schools in the section this year," Zamzo said. "But the boys continually got better with over 170 personal-best marks hit this season. The boys finished strong and we'll be better next year."
