DL girls' b-ball picks up big win over Spuds

A clutch three pointer hit by point guard Courtney Hedstrom was the deciding factor in the Detroit Lakes girls' basketball team's big 46-45 win in Moorhead Saturday.

After a close affair throughout the two halves, the Lakers finally made the big play they've been waiting for all season, as Hedstrom sunk her third trey of the evening.

DL was paced by junior post Jen Matter's 17 points, while guard Kayli Muckenhirn added 12.

"It was a super effort by the girls," said DL head coach Mike Hoganson. "The girls really stepped it up and it was a great team win."

The victory came at the heels of a disappointing 45-35 loss to Mid-State Conference foe Wadena-Deer Creek Friday.

The Wolverines (8-13) were able to control the inside play, while allowing just three Lakers to score.

Turnovers plagued DL's flow, while some cold shooting from the floor also hindered any progress.

The Lakers (5-16) now stand at 5-13 with five games to go in the regular season, with DL traveling to Perham (16-5) Thursday, starting at 7:30 p.m.
