DL Girls Basketball - Lakers dominate Yellowjackets
It was an all-around team effort which keyed a 57-37 rout of visiting Perham for the Detroit Lakes girls' basketball team, as they went to their strength of going inside early and often.
Hitting their high-percentage inside shots, the Lakers (8-10) zipped to an 8-0 start and cruised from there, as they built a 34-20 advantage, then outscored Perham (1-18) 23-17 in the second half.
"We came out with a lot of energy and went inside for the 8-0 start," said DL head coach Mike Hoganson. "I was pleased with all parts of the game, except for defensive rebounding, because we gave Perham second-chance points which allowed them to stay in the game."
The inside attack of Shay Nielsen, Brooke Olson and Trisa Hutchinson was effective. Nielsen led the way with 13 points, while Hutchinson netted 12 and Olson 10.
Senior guard Karli Kerzman found plenty of space on the perimeter and drained a trio of three's to spark her 11 points on the evening.
Nielsen did suffer a bruised foot and missed Tuesday's tilt in Fergus Falls against the No. 1 and undefeated Otters.
The Lakers will play in Park Rapids (5-13) for a Mid-State Conference game Friday, starting at 7:30 p.m.
