DL Girls Hockey - Early lead dissipates for Lakers vs. Green Wave

It was a tough task to even guide the puck into the East Grand Forks zone Saturday for the Detroit Lakes girls' hockey team, which resulted in a 10-2 loss.

The Green Wave did find themselves trailing 2-1 after the first period, though, after the Lakers converted three of their shots on goal into scores.

Callie Johnson had an unassisted effort to tie the game at 1-1, after a power play tally by EGF's CoCo Piche to open the scoring 14:22 into the first.

Emily Payne followed up with a power play goal herself, an unassisted one at that, to put the Lakers on top 2-1 heading into the first intermission.

But that was a good enough wake up call for the Green Wave (16-7-1), as they outshot the Lakers by a 21-4 margin in the second period, to put in five goals in the second and regain control.

The third period was much the same, as EGF had 23 shots on net, compared to DL's two, while netting four more goals for the 10-2 final.

Piche finished with a hat trick, while each of Riley Koberinski and Haley Mack had two apiece. Other Green Wave scorers included Gina Larson, Mak Langei and Erica Eades.

Haileigh Wenger was busy in net for the Lakers, saving 48, while Sam Rarick had seven total saves for EGF.

The Lakers were coming off a 6-1 loss to Northern Lakes (11-10) Thursday, dropping their season record to 4-20 overall.

The Lakers will wrap up the regular season in Sartell (13-8-2) Saturday, starting at 3 p.m.
