DL Girls Tennis - Lakers can't advance past 2nd round

Each of the Detroit Lakes doubles teams played to the second round in the girls' tennis Section 8-1A individual playoffs before ending their seasons.

Laker Dani Unruh also played to the second round in singles, after beating Fergus Falls' Sarah Taylor in the opening bracket 6-1, 6-3.

But Bemidji's Jessica Solberg downed Unruh 6-0, 6-1, as the Lumberjack went on to eventually place as the section runner-up.

The duo of Emily Seebold and India Fritz defeated No. 4 seed Katie Trygg and Jordan Slaughter of Moorhead in three sets.

The Lakers started with a 6-1 win, dropped the second set 6-3 and finished off the Spuds 6-2 in the decisive set.

Seebold and Fritz's tourney run came to an end at the hands of Bemidji's Amy Frosaker and Claudia Bellow on a pair of 6-0 wins.

Whitney Benscoter and Shantel Kluenenberg also played to the second round after defeating Little Falls' Mikayla Gottwalt and Katelynn Kanieski in straight sets.

They then lost to eventual section champions Megan Hintz and Sara Wennerstrand of Bemidji 6-0, 6-1.

Singles -- 1st round: Katie Anderson lost to Jamie Jenks (Little Falls) 4-6, 6-4, 2-6

1st round:Dani Unruh def. Sarah Taylor (FF) 6-1 6-3; 2nd round: Dani Unruh lost to Jessica Solberg (Bemidji) 0-6 1-6.

Doubles -- 1st round: Emily Seebold/India Fritz def. No. 4 seeded Katie Trygg/Jordan Slaughter (Moorhead) 6-1 3-6 6-2; 2nd round: Emily Seebold/India Fritz lost to Amy Frosaker/Claudia Bellow (Bemidji) 0-6 0-6.

1st round: Whitney Benscoter/Shantel Kluenenberg def. Mikayla Gottwalt/Katelynn Kanieski (Little Falls) 6-3 7-5; 2nd round: Whitney Benscoter/Shantel Kluenenberg lost to No. 1 seed & eventual section champions, Megan Hintz/Sara Wennerstrand (Brainerd) 0-6 1-6.
