Detroit Lakes High School held Care Week March 11-15, raising money and items for the Becker County Food Pantry and several other local charities.

The Spirit Belt competition between the classes and faculty helped motivate the giving spirit.

The winner of the kick-off assembly musical chairs competition was the teachers, followed by the sophomores, seniors, freshmen and the juniors.

The winner of the kick-off assembly minute drive was the sophomores, who in total raised $216.05 in one minute.

The winner of the Muscle ball minute drive was the juniors, who raised $60.30 in one minute.

The winner of the penny wars was the freshmen. They raised $44.07.

In addition at the Mr. DLHS competition, $937.50 was raised in one minute.

The final scores for the week are as follows:

  • Tied in 3rd place both with a score of 150 points was the juniors and the freshmen.
  • In 2nd place with a score of 200 points the seniors.
  • And the winners of the Spirit Flag with a total score of 250 points were the sophomores.

Amy Erickson and her son, Jake, with the Dolly Parton Imagination Library and Dotz Johnson with the Detroit Lakes Library Summer Program were on hand at the final assembly Monday, March 25, to accept $1,300 for each organization.
