The December edition of BookPage, which (according to the cover) is America's book review, has arrived at the Detroit Lakes Library.

Not only is it an excellent resource for finding something good to read, but it may help you breeze through your holiday shopping.

The exclamation "Give books, gifts they'll open again and again," graces the cover along with "Great gifts for: sports junkies, foodies, art lovers, bibliophiles, style mavens, history buffs, music fans, and young readers."

As you can see by all those interests, BookPage may get you a long way toward a completed Christmas list.

Stop into the library and pick up your complimentary copy, or go to www.bookpage.com. The books highlighted below are reviewed in the December issue.

"The Christmas Shoppe," by Melody Carlson.

The small town of Parrish Springs is not ready for Matilda Honeycutt. A strange older woman with scraggly gray hair and jewelry that jangles as she walks, Matilda is certainly not the most likely person to buy the old Barton Building on the town's quaint main street.

When it becomes apparent that her new shop doesn't fit the expectations of Parrish Springs residents, a brouhaha erupts. After all, Christmas is approaching, and the last thing the town needs is a junky shop run by someone who looks and acts like a gypsy. But as townsfolk venture into the strange store, they discover that old memories can bring new life and healing.

"Fancy Nancy: Splendiferous Christmas," by Jane O'Connor.

Presents with elegant wrapping paper, festive decorations, Christmas cookies with sprinkles -- and who could forget the tree?

After all, there is no such thing as too much tinsel. Ooh la la!

This year, Nancy is especially excited about decorating the Christmas tree. She bought a brand-new sparkly tree topper with her own money and has been waiting for Christmas to come.

But when things don't turn out the way Nancy planned, will Christmas still be splendiferous?
