DL man charged with DWI
A Detroit Lakes man is in custody at the Becker County Jail, awaiting an Oct. 21 appearance in Becker County District Court on a felony charge of driving while intoxicated.
Bryce Steven Holland, 25, of 1320 Washington Ave., Apt. 105, Detroit Lakes, is also facing a related gross misdemeanor charge of driving after cancellation and a misdemeanor count of failure to provide proof of insurance.
The charges are related to an Oct. 4 incident in Detroit Lakes, in which an officer observed a vehicle parked irregularly on the shoulder of East Shore Drive. As the officer approached, the vehicle’s lights came on and it started to move, then pulled out into the traffic lane without signaling.
At that point, the officer pulled the vehicle over. Holland could provide no proof of vehicle insurance, and showed multiple signs of intoxication including slurred speech, bloodshot eyes and a strong odor of alcohol on him. He also failed or performed poorly on field sobriety tests administered by the officer at the scene, and a preliminary breath test showed a result of .139. He also had a canceled license, and three prior convictions for DWI, all occurring between 2005-07.
Holland’s bail was set at $8,000 with conditions, or $20,000 without conditions following his initial court appearance last week.
