DL man charged with malicious punishment
Kevin Marlen Blomseth, 39, of 1760 Long Bridge Road, Lot 18, Detroit Lakes has been charged with felony malicious punishment of a child and felony domestic assault.
On April 12 at 10:25 p.m., a vehicle pulled up to the Detroit Lakes police station to report a possible assault to an officer in the parking lot there.
The officer was told that Blomseth allegedly gave two black eyes to a 12-year-old boy in his care. The officer did a welfare check on the boy and noted that the right eye was black and there were markings under the right eye.
Blomseth lives in the boy's home, is engaged to his mother, and cares for the boy and his siblings, according to court records.
Investigation allegedly revealed that at 12:30 a.m. on April 11, Blomseth came home, went to the boy's bedroom and woke him up because he was angry that he had removed items from Blomseth's pickup truck.
He allegedly hit the boy in the face, knocking him down, and continued to hit him a half-dozen times.
Blomseth was previously convicted of domestic assault and violating a restraining order in 2004 and making terroristic threats in 2000, according to court records.
On June 4, District Judge Peter Irvine issued a summons for him to appear in court on June 23.
