DL man dies just feet from his door on sub-zero night
A Detroit Lakes man was found near death at his doorstep Saturday morning, apparently after being outside on a night when overnight lows were below zero.
Aaron Braasch, 36, was found by a relative about 8 a.m. outside the house he lived in on the 600 block of Roosevelt Avenue, according to Detroit Lakes Police Sgt. Chad Glander.
"He was found unresponsive," Glander said, "right outside the door." He was barely alive at that point and was transported to Essentia Health St. Mary's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Braasch's body has been sent for an autopsy to Midwest Medical Examiner in the city of Ramsey in Anoka County.
"We're still waiting for the final results," Glander said.
"No foul play is suspected."
Glander noted that there are a number of possibilities as to the cause of death, from a pre-existing medical condition to exposure, and that's why an autopsy was ordered.
There was an "extreme cold" warning Friday night.
