DL man gets 90 days for burglary
A Detroit Lakes man was sentenced Wednesday, Nov. 20 in Becker County District Court on a felony charge of third degree burglary.
Jade Wallace Hedlund, 19, of 25877 Broadway Ave., Detroit Lakes, was ordered to serve 90 days in jail and up to five years of supervised probation, as well as pay $1,085 in court fines and fees, plus another $500 in restitution.
If he successfully completes probation, the felony charge will be reduced to a misdemeanor conviction on Hedlund’s record.
He was originally accused of breaking into a rural Becker County residence on Nov. 9, 2012, while the owner was not at home.
According to the criminal complaint, the owner said he suspected Hedlund because the defendant knew him and would have known where the items in his home were located; the owner said that the suspect had apparently taken care not to break certain things. The home had not been ransacked, but about $100 in change was missing, along with a distinctive belt buckle.
A surveillance video at Walmart in Detroit Lakes from later that same day, clearly showed Hedlund making his way over to a coin machine; when he was questioned by law enforcement, the officer noticed Hedlund was wearing a belt buckle matching the description of the stolen one.
