DL man gets jail for stealing from restaurant
A Detroit Lakes man has been convicted and sentenced in Becker County District Court on a felony count of third degree burglary.
Andrew John Dahlsad, 19, of 601 W. Holmes St., Detroit Lakes, was given a stay of imposition on a potential prison sentence, on conditions including completion of 60 days in jail and up to five years of supervised probation, as well as payment of $1,160- in court fines and fees.
If he successfully completes probation, the felony conviction will be reduced to a misdemeanor on his record.
Dahlsad was accused of breaking into a Detroit Lakes restaurant during the early morning hours of July 25 and taking the cash from two registers inside.
According to the criminal complaint, a surveillance video showed someone smashing in one of the restaurant’s windows with a crowbar and entering the building, walking over to the two cash registers and removing the contents before leaving.
The owner of the restaurant said the suspect resembled a former employee, Dahlsad, who upon questioning, denied his involvement. The owner later told investigators that he had texted her and given her cash to repay her for what had been taken in the break-in.
