DL man sentenced for attempted grocery store burglary in Frazee
Guy Bo Smith, 19, of 1007 Oak Grove Ave., Detroit Lakes has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for felony second-degree attempted burglary.
On June 4 at about 12:43 a.m. a Frazee police officer caught him and a juvenile hiding outside Larson's Family Foods, after they had attempted to break into the grocery store. A door was broken and the casing and deadbolt were lying on the ground. Smith had a red-handled fiberglass hammer in his possession and the juvenile admitted they had tried to break in, according to court records.
Smith pleaded guilty Jan. 29 and was sentenced March 10 by District Judge Michael Kirk, who stayed imposition of sentence for 10 years and placed him on supervised probation. He must serve 120 days in jail and pay a $50 fine, plus court fees. He can do community service work in lieu of the fine.
He was ordered to abstain from drugs and alcohol, stay out of bars and attend AA and NA meetings weekly. He will eventually be transported back to Project Turnaround, a nonprofit chemical dependency/compulsive gambling recovery program in Granite Falls.
