DL man sentenced for burglary

A Detroit Lakes man was sentenced to 30 days in jail and five years of supervised probation for burglary.

Chadd Alan Tovson, 25, was arrested on July 17, 2013.

According to court reports, officers were called to the 1800 block of Brainerd Boulevard in Detroit Lakes, where a woman notified police of a burglary suspect in a silver minivan that was sitting in her driveway.

When police arrived, the person in the van was Tovson, who told officers he had entered the house to use the bathroom but didn’t take anything.

The female found two prescription bottles hidden where she had reportedly seen Tovson go in the yard; the bottles belonged to the homeowner.

Tovson then admitted to police that he had taken them from the bathroom, but maintained he had permission from a relative of the homeowner to enter the house to use the bathroom.

In addition to jail time, he was also ordered to pay a $1,000 fine.
