DL man sentenced to jail, fines for drug crime
Gregory Scott Smith, 48, of 525 Washington Ave. No. 26, Detroit Lakes has been sentenced for felony second-degree controlled substance crime.
Three other charges of felony second- and third-degree controlled substance crime were dropped in a plea agreement.
According to court records:
A confidential reliable informant working with the West Central Minnesota Drug Task Force purchased drugs from Smith on four occasions in 2008:
On Aug. 4 Smith sold him .07 grams of meth for $50. On Aug. 5, he sold him .24 grams of meth for $250.
On Aug. 20, he sold him 1.8 grams of cocaine for $300. And on Sept. 29, he sold him 2.4 grams of cocaine for $300.
Smith appeared in court April 23 before District Judge Peter Irvine, who sentenced him to 50 months in prison, stayed 25 years -- a downward departure from the state sentencing guidelines.
He was ordered to serve 180 days in jail and pay a total of $662 in fines and fees. He can do Sentencing to Service work in lieu of the fine. He was placed on supervised probation for 25 years.
