DL man sentenced to prison, stayed, for domestic abuse
Steve Donald Eckes, 45, of 525 Washington Ave., No. 31, Detroit Lakes was sentenced in Becker County District Court for felony domestic abuse.
On Oct. 13 a Detroit Lakes police officer responding to a domestic disturbance call found him standing over a woman and yelling at her outside the Northside bar.
The woman said he had thrown her to the ground and she had hurt her head when it hit the sidewalk.
He was previously convicted of domestic abuse in 2007, assault in 1995 and 1998 and possession of a firearm in 2001, according to court records.
He pleaded guilty Jan. 23 and was sentenced Thursday by District Judge Peter Irvine to a year and a day in prison, execution of sentence stayed five years. He was placed on supervised probation and ordered to serve 57 days in jail, with credit for 57 days served.
He was fined $870 plus court fees and ordered to get an alcohol assessment and follow the recommendations. He must complete a domestic violence group.
