DL man sentenced for violating contact order
David Paul Sherbert, 32, of 323 E. Willow St., Detroit Lakes has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for felony violating a domestic abuse no-contact order.
According to court records, on Oct. 8 he was sentenced on a domestic assault conviction and ordered to have no contact with the victim, except in a therapeutic setting while in was at in-patient chemical dependency treatment at Pine Manor, at the discretion of staff there.
Soon after the sentencing, he was seen by law enforcement officers talking and shopping with the woman at Lakes Sports Shop, a copy of the no-contact order still in his hand.
On Oct. 9 he was transported to Pine Manor. The next he absconded from treatment and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
He appeared March 3 before District Judge Peter Irvine, who ordered him to serve 21 months in prison, execution of sentence stayed five years.
He was placed on supervised probation and ordered to serve 180 days in jail, with credit for time served.
He must pay a $1,000 fine, plus court fees and $1,737 in restitution to the sheriff's department.
He must get an updated chemical dependency evaluation and complete a domestic violence group.
