DL Police Department investigating high speed chase
The Detroit Lakes Police Department is investigating after a suspect fled from law enforcement in a stolen car early Sunday morning.
The chase started near the city and ended north of Shell Lake in rural Becker County. It covered roughly 22 miles.
It started when an officer in area of Highway 34 and Washington Avenue received a report of an erratic driver eastbound on Highway 34, according to Detroit Lakes Police Chief Tim Eggebraaten.
The officer drove east on Highway 34, saw tail lights and tried to catch up to see if vehicle matched the description in the complaint.
It was moving very fast at that point, and when the officer attempted to execute a traffic stop, the chase was on. Speeds reached 75 to 100 mph as the Buick passenger car went north on Becker County Road 37, and the officer lost sight of the vehicle somewhere around County Road 26.
Officers found the vehicle a short time later abandoned in the ditch. It had been stolen in Audubon, Eggebraaten said.
No one was reported injured in the chase. Law enforcement didn’t get a good look at the suspect or suspects. The investigation continues, and if anyone has any information on the pursuit they are asked to call the DLPD.
