DL public schools locked down briefly
Detroit Lakes public schools were locked down for about an hour Tuesday afternoon during after-school activities in what police call a precautionary measure.
According to Sergeant Robert Strand, authorities were looking for a man believed to be suffering from mental health issues who was last seen in the Shorewood Pub area.
“There was no immediate threat to the schools, but because we couldn’t pinpoint exactly where he was at that time, we just decided to lock them down as a precaution,” said Strand, who says the man was located at his home, where there was no incident, but was taken into a 72 hour hold to be evaluated.
The schools were unlocked around 4:30 p.m.
