There was some of the best competition in the Fergus Falls’ pool Saturday, with Detroit Lakes holding their own Saturday during the Otter Invite.

The meet attracted two talented metro teams in Visitation and North St. Paul, as the former set five pool records to win the meet, followed by the host Otters in second.

The Lakers finished fourth behind North St. Paul, as the DL diving team scored some big points by placing four in the top five.

“It was a good chance to swim against different teams from the metro area,” said DL head coach Carol McCarthy. “Most of the (DL) swimmers maintained their best or nearly best times this season.”

Junior Kyley Foster was tops in diving with a score of 226.50, while teammate Emma Disse was second at 193.80 and Cora Okeson nabbed third with a mark of 167.95.

Lexy Yliniemi took fifth with a score of 156.70.

Sophomore Clara Livermore had a nice time drop in the 200-yard individual medley, while freshman Anna Schumacher dropped time in her two individual events, the 100 fly and 100 back and is looking to qualify for the Section meet in November.

Eighth grader Addi Young also had a very nice time drop in the 100 breaststroke to come within .20 seconds away from a section-qualifying time.

The team has a very busy schedule the next two weeks with True Team in Bemidji on Saturday, Oct. 12.

“Our goal is to stay healthy and continue to maintain training as the season screams on by,” McCarthy added.

DL will be hosting Mid-State rival Park Rapids Thursday, starting at 6 p.m. inside the BTD Aquatics Center.

Lakers win 8 of 12 in Moorhead

The Lakers had a stellar meet in the Moorhead triangular Tuesday by winning eight of 12 events.

The Livermore sisters, Grace and Clara, were swimming off-events for their team Ironwoman distinction and won their races.

Clara, typically DL’s No. 1 breaststroker, swam the 500 freestyle, as she dropped over a minute from swimming it last year.

Grace, typically the Lakers’ No. 1 backstroker, swam the 100 breaststroke, and turned in the fastest 100 breaststroke time of the team so far this year.

“I know there will be quite a race coming up between the two sisters in the coming meets,” McCarthy said.

Diver Emma Disse broke 200 points for the first time in her Laker career and took second, behind Foster, who scored a 235.50.

The Lakers also won the 200 medley relay (Grace and Clara Livermore, Schiller, Gulon) and the 200 freestyle relay, which consisted of the same foursome as the 200 medley.

Gulon won the 50 and 100 freestyle races, while Grace Livermore also won the 100 butterfly, as well.
